Explore which PSUs recruit through GATE without an interview and understand their selection process.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) is the clearest answer. Its latest Junior Executive notice selects on GATE score alone, followed by document checks, background verification and a medical, with no interview stage. It also takes computer science candidates: 31 posts under paper CS in that notice.

Two more recruiters select on GATE merit but keep the right to call an interview. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) does this for Deputy Manager (Technical), and Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) does it for Engineer (ITS). Most large PSUs, including POWERGRID, NTPC, NPCIL and NEEPCO, still add an interview, and DRDO adds one for Scientist ‘B’.

So the honest answer to which PSU recruit through GATE without interview is short: a few recruiters, led by AAI, and the list changes with every notice. This guide from Gate At Zeal Indore uses only official notices opened on 9 October 2026, and names the notice behind every claim.

What “without interview” really means

A PSU that recruits through GATE without interview ranks candidates on GATE score and offers posts in merit order. There is no group discussion and no personal interview to change that order. Your GATE score is the whole competitive part of the selection.

That does not mean the offer comes straight after the result. The AAI notice still lists three steps after shortlisting:

  1. Application verification, with original certificates, proof of identity and self-attested copies.
  2. A character and antecedents check, also called background verification.
  3. A medical check against the standards for the post.

Any of these can end a candidacy, even with a high score. A missing certificate or a medical standard you do not meet cannot be fixed by a better GATE score.

There is also a middle group. NHAI and IHMCL select on GATE merit but say they may call shortlisted candidates for an interview or interaction. In practice, read these as GATE-first routes where an interview is possible, not as guaranteed no-interview routes.

The rule for GATE 2027 is simple: read the selection section of each notice before you count it as interview-free. The selection method can change from one notice to the next, even inside the same organisation.

Which PSU Recruit Through GATE Without Interview

PSUs that select on GATE score

AAI Junior Executive: GATE score only

AAI’s notice (Advt 09/2025/CHQ) ranks candidates on GATE score and lists no interview. It accepted scores from GATE 2023, 2024 or 2025, with equal weight for each year. Ties are broken by age, then by degree marks.

The notice listed five streams with tentative vacancies: Architecture (AR) 11, Civil (CE) 199, Electrical (EE) 208, Electronics (EC) 527 and Information Technology (CS) 31. The post is Junior Executive at E-1 level, on a pay scale of ₹40,000 to ₹1,40,000 in 3% steps. The notice puts total cost to company at roughly ₹13 lakh a year.

That window ran from 28 August to 27 September 2025. Watch for AAI’s next notice and check which GATE years it accepts before you plan around GATE 2027.

NHAI Deputy Manager (Technical): GATE merit, interview only if called

NHAI’s GATE 2026 notice (detailed advertisement) selects “on the basis of GATE 2026 score in the discipline of Civil Engineering”. It offered 60 posts at Level 10 of the 7th CPC pay matrix (₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500). It also reserves the right to restrict candidates for an “interaction/interview, if called”.

The age limit was 30 years on the closing date, with relaxation by category. Applications ran from 15 May to 15 June 2026. This route is for civil engineers only.

IHMCL Engineer (ITS): GATE merit, interview only if called

IHMCL’s notice (Advt 02.05.2025) selected on “merit of the Valid GATE Score of the year 2025” for 49 Engineer (ITS) posts. It accepted papers CS, EC, EE, IN and DA, so computer science candidates were eligible.

Pay was ₹40,000 to ₹1,40,000 (IDA), with an annual CTC of about ₹11 lakh per the notice. IHMCL also “reserves the right to invite candidate for interview”, so treat it as GATE-first rather than interview-free.

PSUs that add an interview or group discussion

Most large PSUs use GATE to shortlist and an interview to decide. The weight of the interview varies a lot, so it is worth knowing before you prepare.

POWERGRID: GATE 85%, group discussion 3%, interview 12%

POWERGRID’s GATE 2026 Engineer Trainee notice (PDF) gives GATE marks 85% of the final score. Group discussion carries 3% with no qualifying marks, and the personal interview carries 12%. The interview has a qualifying mark: 40% for Unreserved and EWS, and 30% for OBC (NCL), SC, ST and PwBD candidates.

Shortlisted candidates may also take a psychometric assessment, used as an input in the interview. A strong GATE score carries you most of the way, but a weak interview can still cost the offer.

DRDO Scientist ‘B’: GATE 80%, interview 20%

DRDO’s Advt No. 156 shortlists about 10 candidates per vacancy on GATE score. The final merit is 80% GATE and 20% personal interview, with a minimum interview mark of 70% for General and 60% for other categories. DRDO is a government research body, not a PSU, but many GATE candidates target it.

GATE score and interview weightage in PSU selection.

NPCIL, NEEPCO and NTPC: GATE shortlist, then interview

  • NPCIL: its 2025 Executive Trainee notice shortlists for a personal interview on valid GATE score.
  • NEEPCO: its NEEPCO/01/2026 notice shortlists on GATE 2026 marks, then holds a personal interview. It gives no weightage.
  • NTPC: its recruitment page says engineering trainees are hired through GATE “followed by a combination of aptitude/behavioral tests, Group Discussion and Personal Interview”.

GAIL and NMDC: not stated yet

GAIL’s GATE 2027 notice shortlists on GATE 2027 marks for a “further selection process” that it does not describe. NMDC’s 2026 Executive Trainee (Tech.) notice also describes no later stage. Do not count either as interview-free until the full procedure is out.

What still happens after the GATE score

Even on a no-interview route, the GATE score only gets you to the next stage. The notices we opened list several checks that come after it.

  • Document verification. AAI calls it application verification and asks for original certificates, proof of identity and self-attested copies. POWERGRID asks for certified translations of category certificates not in Hindi or English.
  • Background check. AAI runs a character and antecedents check before an offer.
  • Medical examination. AAI makes selection subject to the medical standards for the post. POWERGRID makes it subject to its pre-employment medical, with no relaxation in its norms.
  • Category and income proof. GAIL asks EWS candidates for an income and asset certificate at the selection stage.
  • Marks rule. GAIL also requires 65% in the qualifying degree for General, EWS and OBC (NCL) candidates, whatever the GATE score.

Training and service terms also differ by PSU. Some start on a training pay scale and move to a higher scale after training, so read the pay and training clause, not just the headline CTC. Check any service agreement or bond terms in the notice and the offer letter, because we did not verify bond terms for every PSU.

Keep a folder ready before results: degree certificate and marksheets, category certificate in the right format, ID proof, photographs and your GATE 2027 scorecard. A no-interview PSU moves quickly once the merit list is out, and a missing document is the easiest way to lose a seat you earned.

Who the no-interview route suits, and the trade-offs

The no-interview route rewards one thing: your GATE score. That makes it a strong fit for some candidates and a narrow plan for others.

It suits you if

  • You test better on paper than in an interview room. Your rank depends on the exam, not on how you present on one day.
  • You are in a branch AAI takes. Its last notice covered architecture, civil, electrical, electronics and computer science (paper CS).
  • You want a short, predictable process. Fewer stages usually means fewer dates to travel for.

The trade-offs

  • Fewer seats. The no-interview list is short. AAI’s last notice had 31 computer science posts, against hundreds in electronics.
  • The cutoff is all score. With no interview to make up ground, a few marks decide the merit list.
  • The method can change. NHAI and IHMCL already keep an interview option, and any PSU can change its procedure in a new notice.
  • Pay is not higher for skipping the interview. AAI’s ₹40,000 to ₹1,40,000 scale matches the E-1 scale used elsewhere, while NHAI’s Level 10 post starts higher but is for civil engineers only.

A balanced plan

Aim at the no-interview recruiters, but do not plan around them alone. Apply to interview-based PSUs too, and prepare a short interview plan alongside GATE. GATE carries most of the weight on both routes, so one strong GATE 2027 score keeps both doors open.

How to target no-interview PSUs in GATE 2027

Start from the notices, not from a list on a forum. Then work through this checklist.

  • Pick the right paper. AAI used AR, CE, EE, EC and CS. IHMCL used CS, EC, EE, IN and DA. NHAI used the civil engineering paper.
  • Check the GATE years accepted. AAI accepted 2023, 2024 or 2025 scores; NHAI accepted GATE 2026 only; GAIL accepts GATE 2027 marks only.
  • Check your degree marks. Some notices add a minimum, such as GAIL’s 65% for General, EWS and OBC (NCL) candidates.
  • Check age on the closing date. NHAI capped age at 30 years, with category relaxation.
  • Push your score, not just your qualification. With no interview, merit order is set by GATE score, and ties are broken by age: NHAI places the candidate born earlier higher, and AAI also uses age first.
  • Keep documents ready. Certificates, category proof and ID decide whether a high score turns into an offer.
  • Watch each PSU’s careers page. Notices for GATE 2027 scores will appear through 2027, each with its own window.

Where the marks come from

The no-interview route makes every GATE mark count. Spend most of your remaining time on high-weightage core subjects, past GATE questions and full mocks under time. Guess with care: wrong MCQs lose marks (1/3 for 1-mark and 2/3 for 2-mark questions), while MSQ and NAT questions carry no negative marking.

Gate At Zeal Indore builds GATE 2027 plans around the score a target PSU needs, so the plan matches the merit list you are aiming for.

GATE 2027 dates that decide the PSU timeline

The official GATE 2027 dates page, checked on 8 October 2026, sets the timeline. PSU notices that use GATE 2027 scores follow these dates.

  1. 5 October 2026: regular registration closed.
  2. 12 October 2026: late registration closes, with a ₹500 extra fee.
  3. 4 January 2027: city allotment.
  4. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027: exam days over three weekends.
  5. 17 February to 18 March 2027: GAIL’s Executive Trainee application window, per its GATE 2027 notice.
  6. 19 March 2027: GATE 2027 results.

The admit card date is not yet announced on the official page. Most PSU notices that use GATE 2027 scores will open their own windows through 2027, so track each careers page after the results.

Mistakes that cost candidates a no-interview PSU offer

On a merit-only route, small errors matter more because there is no interview to recover in.

  • Trusting an old list. A PSU that skipped the interview in one notice can add it in the next. NHAI and IHMCL already keep that option open.
  • Using the wrong GATE year. AAI accepted three years of scores, NHAI only GATE 2026, and GAIL only GATE 2027. A valid score in the wrong year counts for nothing.
  • Missing the discipline line. NHAI’s notice was civil only. GAIL’s GATE 2027 notice covers chemical, instrumentation, electrical and mechanical only.
  • Ignoring the degree-marks rule. A high GATE score does not override a minimum like GAIL’s 65%.
  • Late or incomplete documents. Verification can end a candidacy that the score had already secured.
  • Treating “not stated” as “no interview”. When a notice does not describe later stages, wait for the full procedure before you assume.

Frequently asked questions

Which PSU recruit through GATE without interview?

AAI is the clearest example: its latest Junior Executive notice selects on GATE score, then document checks, background verification and a medical, with no interview. NHAI and IHMCL also select on GATE merit but keep the right to call an interview.

Does AAI take computer science candidates through GATE?

Yes. AAI’s latest Junior Executive notice listed 31 posts in Information Technology under GATE paper CS. Pay was ₹40,000 to ₹1,40,000, with a cost to company of roughly ₹13 lakh a year.

Is there a PSU that selects on GATE score alone with no other step?

No. Even without an interview, the notices we checked add document verification and a medical, and AAI adds a background check. These steps can end a candidacy regardless of score.

Do POWERGRID and NTPC take an interview?

Yes. POWERGRID’s GATE 2026 notice weights GATE at 85%, group discussion at 3% and the interview at 12%. NTPC’s recruitment page lists tests, group discussion and a personal interview after GATE.

Can a PSU change its selection method for GATE 2027?

Yes. Each notice sets its own procedure, so check the selection section of every GATE 2027 notice before you count it as interview-free.
