The official GATE 2027 mock test is not out yet. As of 31 October 2026, the GATE 2027 notifications page has no mock test notice; its latest update, dated 16 October 2026, is that the application portal has closed.

It should come. The previous cycle’s official site had a dedicated mock test links page with one link per paper, including CS. Gate At Zeal Indore expects the GATE 2027 mock link around November, but no date is official yet, so watch the GATE 2027 site rather than relying on any expected date.

Until the link is out, you can still practise: solve official past papers under exam timing and take full-length GATE 2027 mock tests from your study plan. When the official mock arrives, use it to learn the exam screen, not to judge your score.

What the official GATE mock test is, and what it is not

The official mock is a free practice version of the computer-based test, published on the GATE website. Its job is to show you the exam screen before exam day. The previous cycle’s page said it plainly: the links are there “to help candidates familiarise themselves with the look and feel” of the computer-based test.

What it is

  • A preview of the exam screen. You see how questions appear, how answers are entered and how you move between questions.
  • Paper-specific. Last cycle there was one link per paper, so CS candidates practise on a CS mock, ME candidates on an ME mock, and so on.
  • Free and official. It comes from the GATE organising institute’s own website, with no registration fee.

What it is not

  • Not a score predictor. It is not built to rank you or forecast your GATE score.
  • Not a full study resource. One mock per paper is not enough practice for three hours of exam stamina.
  • Not a promise about every feature. The previous cycle’s page warned that features in the actual exam may be different from those in the static mock links.

Why it still matters

The GATE 2027 paper is three hours long, with 65 questions and 100 marks for standard papers, mixing MCQ, MSQ and NAT questions, per the official question paper pattern. Each question type is answered differently on screen. A few minutes lost to an unfamiliar screen on exam day are minutes taken from questions you could have solved.

When the official mock link appears, and where to find it safely

Timing

The GATE 2027 site has not announced a mock test date. The exam runs on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, per the important dates page, and city allotment is due on 4 January 2027. Gate At Zeal Indore expects the mock link around November 2026, well before the exam, but treat that as an expectation until the official site confirms it.

Where to look

  1. The official GATE 2027 website: gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Check the homepage and the notifications page.
  2. The notifications page: gate2027.iitm.ac.in/notifications. Every official update so far has been posted here with a date.
  3. A dedicated mock test page, if one is added. Last cycle it was a separate page listing one link per paper.

Stay safe

  • Use links from the official site only. Open the mock from the GATE 2027 website, not from a forwarded message.
  • The official mock is free. Do not pay anyone for access to it.
  • Never share your GOAPS password or enrolment ID to get a mock link. The official mock does not need them.
  • Check the paper code before you start, especially if your paper’s code changed this year (XE, XH and XL codes changed from GATE 2026).

What to do before it arrives

Do not wait for the link to start practising under exam conditions. Past question papers and answer keys for many years are on the official GATE 2027 download page. Solve them as full three-hour papers now, and use the official mock later to learn the screen.

How to take the official GATE 2027 mock test

Treat the official mock like a dress rehearsal. These steps assume the link works as it did last cycle, with one link per paper.

  1. Open the official GATE 2027 site on a laptop or desktop. The real exam is on a computer, so practise on a computer, not a phone.
  2. Find the mock test link for your paper code. CS candidates should open the CS link, and so on. If you took two papers, try both.
  3. Set aside a full three hours. Close other tabs, put your phone away and keep only rough paper and a pen.
  4. Start at your likely session time. The forenoon session runs 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the afternoon session 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, per the information brochure. If you do not know your session yet, try both times across two attempts.
  5. Read the instructions screen carefully. In the real exam you can log in and read instructions from 20 minutes before the start, so use this time in the mock too.
  6. Answer one question of each type early. Enter an MCQ, an MSQ and a NAT answer within the first ten minutes, so you know how each is saved.
  7. Use every screen feature at least once: move between sections, mark a question for review, clear a response, and use the calculator if the mock provides one.
  8. Practise a NAT entry with decimals and a negative value. Check how the screen accepts it.
  9. Submit only at the end and note anything that confused you.
  10. Write a short note right after: what took longer than expected, and what you will do differently on exam day.

One attempt teaches the screen. A second attempt, a week or two later, checks that the habits stuck.

Interface features to practise

Computer-based tests usually share a set of screen features. Check each one in the official GATE 2027 mock test, since last cycle’s page warned that the real exam’s features may differ from the mock.

FeatureWhat it usually doesWhat to rehearse
Question paletteShows every question number with its statusJump to any question in one click
Answer status coloursSeparate states for answered, not answered, not visited and markedRead the colours at a glance before you submit
Mark for reviewFlags a question to return toFlag doubtful questions, then clear the flags in the last 15 minutes
Save and nextSaves your answer and opens the next questionConfirm the answer saved before moving on
Clear responseRemoves a selected answerRemove a wrong MCQ choice so it is not scored
MCQ inputPick one optionChange your choice without leaving an answer you did not intend
MSQ inputPick one or more optionsTick each correct option; there are no partial marks
NAT inputType a numberEnter decimals and negative values, and check rounding
CalculatorOn-screen calculator, if providedDo a few operations to learn its layout and speed
TimerShows time leftGlance at it at fixed points, such as every 30 minutes
Section tabsSwitch between General Aptitude and the subject section, where shownMove between sections without losing your place

Why the details matter

MSQ has no partial marks and NAT has no options to fall back on, per the official question paper pattern. A slip in how you enter an MSQ or NAT answer costs the whole question. Wrong MCQs cost 1/3 or 2/3 of a mark, so make sure a clear-response action really clears the answer.

Gate At Zeal Indore suggests listing any feature that slowed you down and practising only those in your second attempt.

Official mock vs practice mocks vs past papers

A strong GATE 2027 mock test plan uses three kinds of practice. Each does a different job.

Official GATE mockFull-length practice mocksOfficial past papers
Main jobLearn the exam screenBuild speed, stamina and accuracyLearn the real question style
Where fromGATE 2027 websiteYour study plan or test seriesGATE 2027 download page

Score meaningLittle; not built to rank youUseful for trends across mocksUseful against the official answer key
Best usedOnce or twice, then again close to the examWeekly, then twice weeklyThroughout, under exam timing

How they fit together

  • Past papers teach what GATE asks. The official download page carries question papers and answer keys, so you can score yourself honestly.
  • Practice mocks build exam fitness. Three hours of focus is a skill, and it grows with repetition and review.
  • The official mock removes screen surprises. It makes the last part of your preparation look exactly like the exam.

If you can only add one thing this week, add a timed past paper. Add the official mock as soon as its link is live.

A GATE 2027 mock test plan, November to February

From 31 October 2026, the first exam day (6 February 2027) is 98 days away, about 14 weeks. Your own paper may fall on any of the six exam days, so plan for 6 February and treat any extra days as a bonus.

PeriodMock workReview
NovemberOne full-length mock or past paper every two weeks; topic tests in betweenFull review of each mock before the next
When the official link is liveFirst attempt at the official mock at your likely session timeNote screen features that slowed you
DecemberOne full-length mock a weekOne day of review per mock; keep an error log
Early JanuaryTwo full mocks a week; second official mock attemptReview each within a day
4 January 2027City allotment notificationPlan travel to your exam city
Last week before your paperOne light mock at most, early in the weekRevise your error log and formula notes; rest

Rules that make the plan work

  • Review every mock before the next one. An unreviewed mock teaches little.
  • Take full mocks at the time of your session. Once the schedule and admit card confirm your session, practise at 9:30 AM or 2:30 PM accordingly.
  • Keep conditions real. Three hours, no breaks you would not get in the exam, phone away.
  • Do not start new topics in the last week. Use it to sharpen what you know.

The official paper-wise schedule is not out yet, per the information brochure, which says it will be notified later. Adjust the last two weeks of this plan once your date is confirmed.

What to check after each mock test

A mock only raises marks if you study it afterwards. Use this checklist after every full mock, official or practice.

  • Score by section and question type. Split marks into General Aptitude and your subject, and into MCQ, MSQ and NAT.
  • Count negative marks. Wrong 1-mark MCQs cost 1/3 mark and wrong 2-mark MCQs cost 2/3 mark, per the official pattern.
  • Tag every lost mark. Was it a concept gap, a calculation slip, a misread, a wrong guess or a time-out?
  • Re-solve wrong and skipped questions the next day without looking at solutions first.
  • Check time. Note how many questions you had done at one hour and at two hours.
  • Check screen issues (official mock). List any feature that slowed you down or confused you.
  • Pick two fixes for the days before your next mock.

For the full method, including a subject tracker and the guessing math, see our guide on how to analyse GATE CSE mock tests. The method works for any branch.

Mistakes to avoid with GATE 2027 mock tests

  • Waiting for the official link to start practising. Past papers and full-length mocks can start today; the official mock adds screen practice later.
  • Reading the official mock score as a prediction. It is built to show the look and feel of the test, not to rank you.
  • Taking the official mock on a phone. The exam is on a computer. Practise on a laptop or desktop with a mouse.
  • Using the wrong paper’s link. Check your paper code first, especially for papers whose codes changed this year.
  • Opening mock links from forwarded messages. Use only links on the official GATE 2027 website, and never share your GOAPS login.
  • Skipping MSQ and NAT entry practice. These are where a careless entry costs the whole question.
  • Taking mocks without reviewing them. The review is where the marks come from.
  • Ignoring time of day. Practise at your session time once it is confirmed on your admit card.
  • Cramming new mocks in the final days. Keep the last week light, so you arrive rested.
