GATE 2027 Branch Wise Exam Schedule: Paper Wise Dates and Sessions

0
GATE 2027 exam dates and sessions, with the detailed paper-wise schedule to be announced.

GATE 2027 will be held on six days: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, with a forenoon and an afternoon session each day. The official paper-wise (branch-wise) schedule has not been released yet. As of 24 October 2026, the information brochure says the exact schedule “will be notified later on the GATE 2027 website”.

So no one can tell you today whether CS, EC, ME or any other paper is on 6 February or 21 February. Any page that lists firm paper-wise dates now is guessing. Your own paper’s date, session and reporting time will be confirmed on the official schedule and on your admit card.

This guide from Gate At Zeal Indore lists everything that is official so far: the six exam days, the session timings, all 30 papers, the allowed two-paper pairs and the dates around the exam. Use it to plan now, then slot in your paper’s date the day the GATE 2027 branch wise exam schedule is announced.

GATE 2027 exam days and sessions at a glance

The official important dates page and the information brochure (revised 17 October 2026) fix the frame that every paper will fit into.

Exam dayDateSessions
Day 1Saturday, 6 February 2027Forenoon and afternoon
Day 2Sunday, 7 February 2027Forenoon and afternoon
Day 3Saturday, 13 February 2027Forenoon and afternoon
Day 4Sunday, 14 February 2027Forenoon and afternoon
Day 5Saturday, 20 February 2027Forenoon and afternoon
Day 6Sunday, 21 February 2027Forenoon and afternoon

That gives 12 sessions across three weekends for 30 test papers. With 30 papers and 12 sessions, several papers must share a session. The brochure also says each candidate appears in “only one of the sessions of the test paper”, which suggests some papers may run in more than one session; your date and time will be the one on your admit card.

Session timings

  • Forenoon session: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Afternoon session: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Both are three-hour sessions, matching the three-hour paper. Which session your paper falls in will be confirmed on the official schedule and admit card.

The official dates page also notes that all dates are liable to change, so treat this frame as current, not final, until your admit card is out.

Branch-wise highlights for popular papers

Standard papers share the same core pattern: three hours, 65 questions and 100 marks, with 15 marks of General Aptitude, per the official question paper pattern. What differs by branch is the syllabus and the second papers you may add.

CS: Computer Science and Information Technology

CS can be paired with DA, EC, GE, MA, ME, PH, RA or ST. If you plan CS with DA, remember that DA can also be your primary paper with CS as the second, so choose the order that matches your main goal. Your CS date and session will appear on the official schedule and admit card.

DA: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

DA has the widest list of second papers in this group: CS, EC, EE, MA, ME, PH, RA, ST and XE. That makes the final schedule matter more if you took two papers, since both must fit on your admit card.

EC and EE: Electronics and Electrical

EC pairs with CS, DA, EE, IN, PH and RA. EE pairs with DA, EC, IN, PH and RA. If you took two papers, check both dates as soon as they are out.

ME and CE: Mechanical and Civil

ME pairs with AE, CS, DA, IN, NM, PI, RA and XE. CE pairs with AE, AG, AR, ES, GE, NM and XE. Both branches can add XE (Engineering Sciences), whose code changed from GATE 2026.

RA: Robotics and Automation, new for GATE 2027

RA is marked as a new paper on the official site. It pairs with CS, DA, EC, EE, IN and ME. As a new paper, it has no past GATE question papers to practise from.

Other branches

AE, AG, AR, BM, BT, CH, CY, ES, EY, GE, GG, IN, MA, MN, MT, NM, PE, PH, PI, ST, XE, XH and XL complete the 30 papers. MN is the only paper with no second paper listed. Check the table above for your branch’s pairs.

Gate At Zeal Indore suggests noting your paper code and second paper now, so you can read your slot quickly when the official schedule is published.

Two-paper combinations and clashes

GATE 2027 lets you write one paper, or two papers from an approved list. The official two-paper combinations page sets the rules:

  • You must name a primary paper. Your second paper must come from the list allowed for that primary paper.
  • Only listed pairs are allowed in the regular and extended registration windows. The page says more combinations may be opened later and announced on the website.
  • Some pairs could be withdrawn. If a combination is removed later, the fee for the second paper is refunded.
  • Same city, possibly a different centre. The second paper’s exam centre may differ from the first, but it will be in the same city, because of infrastructure and scheduling limits.

What this means for the schedule

The official pages do not yet say which sessions each pair will use. When the schedule is out, check three things if you took two papers:

  1. Both papers are on your admit card, with separate dates or sessions.
  2. The gap between them, so you can plan rest and revision.
  3. Both centre addresses, since they may differ within the same city.

If you see any clash on the admit card, contact the GATE 2027 office through the official contact page right away.

Session timings, reporting time and exam-day rules

The information brochure sets the session times and the entry rules. Your exact reporting time will be printed on your admit card.

ItemRule
Forenoon session9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Afternoon session2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Reporting timeAs printed on your admit card
Taking your seatAllowed from 40 minutes before the start
Login and instructionsAllowed from 20 minutes before the start
Late loginNot allowed after 15 minutes from the scheduled start

What to carry

The official FAQs say you must bring your admit card and the original, valid photo ID you used in the application. Photocopies and expired documents are not accepted.

Plan the day around your session

  • Forenoon paper: you need to be at the centre early in the morning. Practise full mocks at 9:30 AM in the weeks before.
  • Afternoon paper: the session ends at 5:30 PM. Practise mocks at 2:30 PM, and plan a light lunch so you stay alert.
  • Two papers: check the time between them on your admit card and plan meals, rest and travel between centres if the centres differ.

If your centre is in another town, travel the day before. Login closes 15 minutes after the start, so a late arrival can cost you the paper.

Other GATE 2027 dates around the exam

The paper-wise schedule sits inside a longer timeline. These are the dates on the official important dates page as of 24 October 2026.

  1. 2 September 2026: online application (GOAPS) opened.
  2. 5 October 2026: regular registration closed.
  3. 12 October 2026: extended registration with late fee closed.
  4. 15 October 2026, 10:30 AM to 16 October 2026, 10:29 AM: special registration window with late fee.
  5. 14 to 31 October 2026: application rectification window for scrutiny defects.
  6. 4 January 2027: city allotment notification.
  7. 6 February to 21 February 2027: exam days (6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February).
  8. 19 March 2027: results.

Still to be announced on the official page: the data correction window, the admit card download date and the paper-wise exam schedule. The page does not list answer key or scorecard dates yet.

What to do before 31 October

If your application has a scrutiny defect, the rectification window closes on 31 October 2026. Log in to GOAPS and check your application status now, so any defect is fixed inside the window.

How to plan your preparation around your paper’s date

You do not need your exact date to plan well. From 24 October 2026, the first exam day (6 February 2027) is 105 days away and the last (21 February 2027) is 120 days away. Plan for the earliest date, and treat any extra days as a bonus.

Plan for 6 February

  • Finish the first full pass of the syllabus by the end of December. That leaves January for practice and full mocks.
  • Start weekly full mocks in December and review each one before the next.
  • Keep the last week before 6 February for revision, not new topics.

If your paper turns out to be on 20 or 21 February, you gain two extra weeks. Use them for more full mocks and error-log revision, not for starting fresh topics.

When the schedule is out

  1. Find your paper code in the official schedule and note the date and session.
  2. Match your mock timing to your session: 9:30 AM or 2:30 PM.
  3. Count back two weeks from your date for the final revision phase.
  4. If you took two papers, check the gap between them and split revision time to match.
  5. Check the city allotment on 4 January 2027 and plan travel early.

Do not wait for the schedule to start

The gap between the first and last exam days is only two weeks. Whatever your date, most of your preparation time is the same. Gate At Zeal Indore advises GATE 2027 aspirants to plan for 6 February now and adjust once the official branch wise schedule is released.
