The GATE 2027 city intimation slip is the notice that tells you which city you will write GATE 2027 in. The official GATE 2027 important dates page lists the city allotment notification on 4 January 2027 (Monday). The information brochure (revised 17 October 2026) lists the same date as “Notification of Exam cities to the Candidates”.
The slip gives you your exam city only. Your exact centre, date, session and reporting time come later on the admit card, whose date is still TBA. All dates on the official site are marked as liable to change.

What the GATE 2027 city intimation slip shows
The city intimation slip exists for one reason: to give you time to plan travel and stay before the admit card arrives. Expect it to show:
- Your name and enrolment or registration ID, as in your GATE 2027 application.
- Your test paper, such as CS, EC, ME or the new RA paper. Two-paper candidates should see both papers.
- Your allotted exam city, which may or may not be one of your three choices.
The brochure does not publish a sample slip, so the exact layout can differ. Check what your own slip shows once it is out.

What it does not show
- The exam centre address. That comes on the admit card.
- Your exam date and session. The paper-wise schedule has not been announced yet, as of 31 October 2026.
- Your reporting time. The brochure says you must appear “on the date and reporting time specified in the Admit Card”.
The city intimation slip is not an admit card. You cannot enter the exam hall with it. Only the admit card, with your original valid photo ID, gets you in.

Students often mix up the two. Here is how they differ for GATE 2027.

The brochure states that admit cards will be available on the GOAPS portal and that printed copies will not be posted. The city notice is expected in the same candidate login.
How to download the GATE 2027 city intimation slip
The exact link appears only when the notice goes live. Based on how GATE 2027 runs its candidate services, these are the steps to follow on or after 4 January 2027.
- Open the official site. Go to gate2027.iitm.ac.in and look for the city allotment or exam city notice in the announcements.
- Log in to GOAPS. Use the enrolment ID or email and the password you set while applying.
- Find the exam city section. Open the link for exam city, city intimation or city allotment on your dashboard.
- Check your details. Match your name, test paper and photo with your application.
- Note your city. See whether it is your first, second or third choice, or a different city.
- Save a copy. Download the slip or take a screenshot, and keep it in your GATE 2027 folder.
If you forgot your password
Use the password reset option on the GOAPS login page well before 4 January, not on the day. Many students try at once on release day, and a reset can take time.

How GATE 2027 exam cities are allotted
The rules are in Section 6.3 of the official GATE 2027 information brochure.
Three choices, one zone
Every candidate chose three exam cities while applying. The brochure says: “A candidate can choose three cities from the list given in Table 1, with the three choices chosen from the same GATE 2027 zone.” Your first choice fixes the zone, and your second and third choices must come from that same zone.
The exam cities in India are grouped into eight zones, and GATE 2027 has no international centres.
You may get a city you did not choose
The brochure is clear on this: “Because of operational constraints, the GATE Committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one and allot a city that may not be from any of the choices selected by the candidate.”
So the GATE 2027 city intimation slip may show your first choice, a lower choice or another city. Plan for any of these.
Can you change your exam city?
The brochure says requests to change the centre, location, date or time on the admit card “will not be entertained”. It gives no city change window. A data correction window with a fee is listed, but its date is TBA and the brochure does not say a city can be changed in it.
If GATE 2027 opens any city change option, it will be announced on the official site. Until then, treat your allotted city as final.

Two-paper candidates
If you applied for two papers, they come from the official two-paper combination list. The brochure does not set a separate city rule for them. Check your slip for both papers, and later check the admit card for each paper’s centre, since the two may differ.
Exam cities near Indore
The tentative city list in Table 1 of the brochure includes Indore and Ujjain under Madhya Pradesh. Candidates in and around Indore should check Table 1 for the full list for their zone, because the list is tentative and cities can be added or removed.
What to do after you get your exam city
The city slip arrives on 4 January 2027, and the first exam day is 6 February 2027. That gives you about a month to plan. Use it well so that exam week is only about the exam.
If your city is your home city
- Look up the exam venues in your city once the admit card gives the centre address.
- Do a trial trip to the centre a day or two before, at the same time of day as your session.
- Plan a backup route in case of traffic.
If your city is outside your home city
- Wait for the date before booking non-refundable tickets. The paper-wise schedule is not out yet, and GATE 2027 runs on six days: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February.
- Shortlist trains or buses for each possible date so you can book fast once the schedule is out.
- Plan to arrive the day before. The forenoon session starts at 9:30 AM and you may be seated from 40 minutes before. A same-morning journey leaves no margin.
- Choose a stay near the centre, not near the station, once the admit card gives the address.
- Keep travel light: printed admit card and the original photo ID you used in your application. Carry anything else only if the admit card instructions allow it.
Keep studying, not searching
The city slip is not a reason to lose a study week. Gate At Zeal Indore suggests a one-hour planning session the day the slip comes out, a short check after the schedule and admit card, and nothing more. The rest of January is for timed papers and revision.

Watch out for fake slips and links
Use only the official site, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, and your own GOAPS login. Do not share your password or OTP, and do not trust a slip sent on a messaging group. Your official exam city is what your login shows.

From 31 October 2026, the city notice is 65 days away. From the city notice to the first exam day is 33 days.
Session timings
The brochure gives two sessions on each exam day: forenoon 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and afternoon 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. You may be seated from 40 minutes before the start, log in from 20 minutes before, and cannot log in after 15 minutes past the start. Your own session will be on the admit card.
Exam day in your allotted city
Once you know your city, the next goal is a calm exam morning. Small travel problems cost more marks than most students expect, because stress carries into the first section.
What to carry
- Printed admit card. The brochure says admit cards are available only on the GOAPS portal and printed copies are not posted, so print your own.
- The same original, valid photo ID you used in the application. The brochure lists Aadhaar-UID, Aadhaar Virtual ID, passport, PAN card, voter ID, driving licence, or a valid photo ID issued by the Central or State Government. Without it, “the candidate may not be allowed to appear”.
- Original documents, if asked. Candidates whose DigiLocker verification was not complete may need to show original documents at the venue, as the brochure notes.
Follow the admit card’s instructions for anything else. Do not plan on taking items into the hall that the admit card does not allow.
A simple exam-day plan
- Night before: pack the admit card and ID, set two alarms and sleep on time.
- Leave early: aim to reach the centre well before your reporting time, not at it.
- At the gate: keep the admit card and ID in hand for checks.
- Seated: use the minutes before login to settle and read the instructions on screen.
Why your exam city matters for preparation
Your exam city decides how much of the last few days goes into travel. A candidate writing in the home city can study until the evening before. A candidate travelling to another city should finish heavy revision a day earlier and keep the travel day for light review.
